CHARTERING PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Welcome!

Greetings and welcome to the Monumental Women For The Arts (“MWFTA”) of The Society, Incorporated, Supporting the Arts’ website. Members of MWFTA embarked on this journey because of our love of African children, African culture and African Art. It is our dedication to The Society, Incorporated’s mission, of supporting today’s young dreamers in becoming the stars of tomorrow, that frames our focus of preserving our artistic culture by passing it on to our children, and maintaining an essential function in our children’s development.

As artists and avid supporters of the Arts, we understand that art affects children physically, psychologically and emotionally, making youth greater achievers in education. Children engaged with drama have greater literary ability, and children taking part in musical endeavors exhibit greater skills in math and language. Participating in the Arts is essential for child development. Encouraging children to express themselves in constructive ways helps them to form healthy emotional responses later in life.

We also understand that the most profound and influential artists are those who are grounded in their immediate past and cultural history. We, therefore, have to provide a historic, educational, and powerful foundation upon which our youth can stand in order to not only express themselves freely and confidently, but to also be genuine and authentic purveyors of their respective art forms. Much like the Monuments Men and Women of WWII, we are the responsible stewards of our artistic and cultural history.

To implement our mission, we have developed our signature program, the MWFTA Master Class Series that exposes youth in Montgomery County, Maryland to various forms and aspects of the Arts, its industry and local, national and international artists. Please take a look at our website to learn more about it and how you can support us as a patron and/or artist. Monumental Women For The Arts chapter partners with organizations, chapters, individual sponsors, and corporate sponsors with similar goals and missions for the betterment of our communities, and we look forward to working with you.

Thank you,

Sandra A. M. Britt
